The Nikon 24-120mm lens was the very first lens I owned.  Today, I own and use the newer faster focusing AF-S version with Vibration Reduction, since my old one went for a swim in the Southern Ocean off Western Australia.  This is a great lens with a huge range of versatility.  No, it is not Nikon’s sharpest lens but that doesn’t mean it isn’t perfectly useable and can produce great images.

When I am looking for great versatility and need to watch the weight I am carrying, then this is the lens I grab.  It’s a great walking around lens while traveling and doing general photography.  Unfortunately, the variable aperture makes it a little difficult to use in low light situations, especially on the telephoto end.  However, with today’s modern DSLRs and the incredible high ISO capabilities, this is less of a concern than it once was.

While not technically a “professional” lens, this lens produces great images. It is versatile and relatively inexpensive lens and is perfect if you need a single lens to cover a wider range of photographic opportunities.
