It is hard to believe that we are half way through October and have already had our first snow. I’m a Floridian so this is rather mind blowing. I did live in Maine for four years, but even there we usually didn’t have a good snow until Thanksgiving. My birthday is next weekend and it has already snowed. I simply can’t believe it.
Despite my horror at such an early snow (yeah, I know, its going to be a long six months!), it was spectacularly beautiful. I went out for a quick drive this morning and a brief walk and took a couple photographs. I didn’t come back with anything truly spectacular, but I kept a couple frames including the one posted above. I was trying to show some of the fall leaves still on the trees but covered in snow. I’m not thrilled with how it turned out, but it sure shows what it looked like out there.
Winter photography is still pretty new to me so the next 5 or 6 months should be interesting. In the next few days I will be posting a list of my goals and self imposed challenges for the winter season. It hopefully will be a lot of fun.
On a side note, I noticed today that my camera was missing a couple screws in the body so it was sort of coming apart. I am shipping it off to Nikon to be repaired and have a few other minor issues addressed while it is there. I will continue to photograph using my old backup D2Xs until I get it back but I may be digging into my archives for some of my posts. We’ll have to see how things go.
